Aislynn and the Fairies of the Clouds

Fantasy,Young Adult • 412 words

One early morning, soft and bright,

Aislynn awoke to dancing lights.

Little glimmers, warm and clear,

bouncing gently, far and near.

She rubbed her eyes and looked around.

"It's tiny fairies I have found!"

Oh, so small, and in the air they linger,

one could nap on the nail of a finger.

They sang a song so sweet and kind,

but words to it she could not find.

Although the tune she did not know why,

joy still came to her by and by.

They led her out the open door,

across the grass, there she saw more.

A magic mount was waiting there,

with gentle eyes and silver hair.

It changed its shape from this to that,

a horse, a bird, then this, then that.

The girl laughed and climbed aboard,

and of her troubles she knew no more.

The fairies joined, she began to laugh,

as the creature shifted into a giraffe.

It turned its head and said, "Hold on tight!"

and they flew high into the light.

They raced the wind and kissed the clouds,

they waved to stars behind their shrouds.

And then it suddenly came to sight,

a gleaming palace, fair and white.

The Fairy Queen and Fairy King,

as the girl approached, began to sing.

They stood tall, so kind and keen,

their crowns set bright with red and green.

They welcomed her with smiles so true

and said to her, "We've been expecting you."

They danced and laughed and shared a feast;

hunger slept, and joy would never cease.

Then forward stepped the royal pair,

with gentle eyes and loving care.

"My dear Aislynn," the good King said,

with starlight glowing round his head,

"this is a day of days to have you within,

our honored guest, our friend, our kin."

"And with my magic I give you a voice to sing,

to show the Earth what joy you bring.

Care for the Earth both night and day,

for that land is precious in a special way."

"And when the time is right, you'll see,

we shall come again to set you free."

He touched her head and kissed her cheek,

and then she fell fast back asleep.

She woke up warm, her heart still high,

with fairy dust behind her eye.

Sometimes when the clouds drift by

and sunlight sparkles in the sky,

Aislynn smiles, for somewhere up above,

the fairies wait for her with love.
